Algebra 1 is a high school course worth 1 math credit. The course grade is composed of two semester averages (each worth 0.5 credit) the earned score on the End-of-Course Exam given by the state. Below is a breakdown of how the course grade will be calculated at the end of the year. The grade a student receives in this course will be entered on their high school transcript toward their graduation grade point average. (Quarter 1)50% + (Quarter 2)50% = Semester 1 Average (Quarter 3)50% + (Quarter 4)50% = Semester 2 Average (Sem.1 Avg.)35% + (Sem.2 Avg.)35% + (EOC)30% = OVERALL GRADE
NOTE: The final course grade will be finalized once the district receives student EOC scores.
QUARTERLY GRADE CALCULATION.
Composition of Quarterly Grade: 50% Major Assessments (Tests/Projects) 35% Minor Assessments (Quizzes) 15% Class Participation (Bell Work/Classwork/Extra Practice/Homework)
MAJOR(SUMMATIVE)ASSESSMENTS Tests/Projects. (ACCURACY GRADE) At the end of each unit, students will complete an assessment to determine their mastery of each of the standards they have learned and practiced. Test grades will make up 50% of their overall grade each nine weeks.
MINOR(FORMATIVE)ASSESSMENTS Quizzes. (ACCURACY GRADE) As students progress through each unit, they will take short quizzes to check for understanding. Quiz grades will make up 35% of their overall grade each nine weeks.
Class Participation-Extra Practice Assignments. (COMPLETION GRADE) Students may be assigned additional practice assignments to be completed in class or at home. These assignments typically will be an extension of the standard being focused on in class that day, or they may review a skill needed for an upcoming lesson. These assignments are expected to be fully completed by the due date. If the assignment is incomplete, students may submit the assignment late, but they will only receive half-credit for their work.
